  1. If you book a cruise longer than 10 days during an off-peak time when kids are in school (ie. not during Summer or Spring/Winter breaks), you're more likely to have an older crowd.

Also, I've found that non-Caribbean cruises (Hawaii, Alaska, Europe, etc.) tend to have older crowds than their Caribbean counterparts.  Some of that maybe that they simply cost more :-)

  2. The Holland America Line (HAL) and Princess (to a less extent) cater to an older clientle.

  3. go to www.cruisereport.com There are several that do, however, it's not any of the lines cater to one age group exclusively. And I believe it depends on where the cruise is , who they cater to.

I assume you're looking for a more sedate bunch , so the easier way to answer is to tell you That Carnival, and Roayal carribien are the two big US party ships. They focus much more on fun , high energy entertainment and less on food.

BUT the casinos are better on these ships. And except for carnival or Disney.  We have fun on any one we choose.

If it helps, our favorite's in US are Holland, or Celebrity

  4. We also like to cruise with the fifty plus crowd.  My wife and I joined an inexpensive travel club that provides cruises for wholesale prices. Now we invite our family and friends to join the cruise.  We have created our own fifty plus cruise party.  It's great fun.  We're going on a Caribbean cruise in September.

You can reach our travel agent at laurie@smarter-traveler.com.

    Bon Voyage!

  5. Try Saga Holidays based in the uk they do all holidays for over 50

  6. Yes, Holland America.  I have sailed with them twice and on  other lines five times.  Holland America is my favorite.  Everything is elegant, the food is outstanding, and the service superb.  You are spoiled rotten!  The shows are geared to the older crowd as is the night clubs.  I never once heard any heavy metal or rap music.  One cruise was big band music.  There are plenty of activities.  I would love to sail with them again.

  7. Typically the luxury lines market to and attract an older crowd.  Oceania and Silversea in particular tend to market their lines towards folks that are 55 and up.

However as a rule, regardless of the line, itineraries in excess of 7 days tend to attract fewer families and more empty nesters and retirees.

Talk with a travel agent that specializes in cruises, they will help you select the line and itinerary that meets your needs.  I recommend Cruise Planners at 888-286-9827 (www.mycruiseplanner.net).  They're experiended, knowledgable, offer the same deals as the cruise lines and big online sites plus they don't charge any service fees.

  8. Holland America Line has great prices in Alaska and their crowd is usually in that age range. Princess cruises also cater for the mature crowds.

Usually, 10 days or more cruises have a more mature clientele.

You can also try a river cruise vacation in Europe, those seem to be very nice, they include tours and everything....prices are fair.

  9. My husband is 52 and I am 49. We just got back from a Princess cruise and had the best time. It was also 10 days. The longer the cruise the more mature the crowd. Some friends went on Holland America last year and said the average age was 70.

  10. I have been told that Celebrity offers a more upscale, and subdued cruise expererience.

  11. Try Seabourn.  I am in love with this line; I've sailed on it twice and have bookings on two more.  I am a 55 year old woman and travel solo.  Their service and attention (and food and cabins) are second to none.  Small ship, only about 200 passengers.  Older guests, for the most part.  It's like a country club at sea.  Very friendly passengers, attentive staff.  I can't say enough about them!
