  1. Yes,

but in over 15 years that I've been traveling to Costa Rica (and living "there" for 5 yrs--I say "there" 'cause I'm in the States for a couple of months), I have never seen or encountered any.  And I have been in the Manuel Antonio areas quite a bit.

  2. There are vipers and fer de lance in the area, but these snakes are nocturnal and you can't be in the park at night.  The only way you could encounter one is if you disturbed their sleep and that would be only possible if you were off the trails or beach areas.

I go to Costa Rica 2-3 times a year since 1997 and spend most of my time in the forest.  During all of that time in the woods,  I have encountered 3 venemos snakes--an eyelash viper in Monteverde a palm viper in  Manzanillo and a fer de lance on the campus of EARTH University.

Although there are poisonous snakes in the area, I have visited Manuel Antonio's park 5 times and the only reptile that I have seen is an iguana.

  3. yes many
