  1. If you live in Florida, you might as well take a trip to the east coast to go surfing.

I live near The Juno beach pier, which is a very nice surf spot in southern FL.

Like the other people said, you'd have to wait for a hurricane until you get nice waves on the West coast.

  2. Sorry, but you are on the wrong side of Florida to get any real surfing in, unless there is a named storm over the horizon. I know there are thousand of surfers from Florida to Texas, who "surf" in the Gulf, but they will all tell you, they wait patiently for ride-able days. Even if you drive due east until you hit the Atlantic, you are too far south in Florida to have much of a chance at surfing (unless you surf off the jetty at Dodge island in Miami in the cruise ship wakes). The Bahamas s***w up south Florida wave action, and ride-able days are pretty rare in south Florida on the Atlantic coast too. That's not to say that there aren't some great breaks the farther north you get. Gulf coast, no. Sorry

  4. When there is a storm in the Gulf

  5. Yes, when the conditions are right Anna Maria Island in Sarasota can get good, and even St. Pete Beach gets waves on occasion.  You can check out www.gulfster.com to see pictures of every swell for the last five years as evidence.
