  1. There are over 10,000 islands that are considered uninhabited. Most of them are not considered habitable, unless you have a fortune to spend on infrastructure and housing and roads and so on. When I say 10,000, I mean these are all islands that can be purchased. Some of them are fairly huge for a small island (over 100 acres) and cost upwards of ten million USD.

I don't know where you can find a list, but in magazines like "Robb Report" you'll often see listings of islands for sale. The listings include the broker's phone number, and they might be able to give you at least a short list.

Most of the privately-owned islands that are in close proximity to population centers (cities) are already taken. I've learned this from studying what islands are for sale. You can easily snatch up an island for about $50,000 USD if you don't mind its remote location and poor soil. (and susceptible to monsoons)

Remember, a deserted island might be deserted for a reason. If there's not much going on there, no one wants it. That's the rule of thumb.

  2. i think by now we as humans have taken some kind of control over any bit of land on the planet. either that or taken every available resource and moved on to another. the reason its deserted is because its probably inhospitable. oh and islands that we're once thought to be un-occupied are probably owned by the mega-rich and celebrities.

  4. There are a few, like Roatan Honduras or the Corn Islands off of Nicaragua...There are many off of Panama....

Not sure where to find a list of them.

  5. There are so many deserted islands in the world, probably thousands, that it is unlikely that you will find a list of them.  The other problem that you have to deal with is the definition of an island.  Is a sand bar an island?  A reef?  A rock?

Did you really mean a habitable island?  If so, then what makes it habitable?

    Tough question to definitively answer.

I think you get the idea.

  6. There are a lot of unoccupied islands, but I don't know of a definitive list of them.  Since land is a pretty premium commodity for any nation, in all likelihood these islands are unoccupied for a reason -- no fresh water available, too small to have any sort of infrastructure like power plants, not convenient or strategically valuable, or just plain rocky and inhospitable.  And the ones that aren't owned by anybody are in the middle of nowhere and nobody wants them.
