Are there any devices in which relativistic effects are used?

I read that some sattelites take time dialtion into effect but are there any other examples. Both general and special?

  1. GPS is the only application of relativity I've ever heard outside of pure science.

    Of course relativity is essential to astronomy and particle physics.  The particles at LHC are HIGHLY relativistic.


  2. Technically, the magnetic field is a "relativistic effect" on the electric field, but since Maxwell's Equations predates relativity, it's usually not thought of that way. Particle accelerators must take into account relativistic effects, like inertial mass increase, in their design and function.
