I want to be a drama teacher after school, so I was looking around at some colleges. I was just wondering if there is a difference between majoring in drama education or double majoring in drama and education? Are there advantages/ disadvantages to either? Or are they pretty much the same and there's really no difference? Just wondering. Thanks!

  1. Yes, there is a difference. In general education classes, you learn how to teach general studies of the age group that you claim your concentration in. In drama classes, you learn skills that one would need for acting, dance, etc. You do not learn how to TEACH drama while pursuing those double majors. A Drama Ed. program would equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to actually teach drama to students in a classroom. The experience is greatly different. Dowling College in Long Island, New York has a reputable Drama Ed. program.
