Question:

Are there any diseases from swimming with contacts?

I want to know if there is anything bad that can happen if I swim underwater with my contacts in. I have done it before and it doesn't hurt my eyes even if I open them underwater in a chlorinated pool (also they don't fall out) but I was wondering if there were any germs that could harm me or anything.

  1. no

  2. Sara, you can get pink eye and/or conjunctivitis, which is pretty uncomfortable.  Although chlorine kill most bacteria and germs, it is not healthy for your eyes.  I've worn contacts since 1982, hard, soft & extended wear lens.  I now have to deal with scarring and corneal damage because I abused my eyes with contact wear.  Be cautious.  You only get one pair of eyes!

  3. noo i do it all the time, its perfectly fine!

my dads a toxicologist with a ph.d and he swims and he has contacts, and he wears contacts and water gets in his contacts sometimes, its fine.

i also am a 5 day a week 2 hour practice swimmer myself and i wear contacts, and i always get chlorine in my contacts, its fine.

dont worry about it, hope i helped =]

    p.s: chlorine actually KILLS germs.
