Are there any downsides to using rare candys in pokemon diamond?

i heard if you keep using rare candies they dont grow as strong

Well there are no downsides to using rare candies. Although its true that it wont grow as strong. Why? If you know about EV Training you will know why. When a a pokemon battles another pokemon, and beats it, it will gain something called an EV for a specific stat. If you battle four of the same pokemon, you will get 4 EVs for that stat and the stat will go up by 1 when you increase the pokemon's level. Although when you use rare candies, it doesnt count any EVs which means you still have'em but haven't used it. For more information on EV Training, check on my sources.

it wont help with making ur pokemon happy and even though ur pokemon levels up the stats don't rise as well as doing though battling people and wild pokemon

Yeah, levelling up your pokemon by battling will make them stronger comparing with the use of rare candies. The answer to this is the fact that you only get EV (effort values) by defeating a pokemon in a battle. EV are essecial to a pokemon's status as they contribue to their main stats, such as Attack, Sp.Attack, Sp.Defense, Defense, Speed and HP.

use 3 as a maximum on each pokemon because ur stats will loose a bit but the slightest and u gain it bak aslong as u dnt keep using them so i wudnt worri about it not being as strong

this is true. Also, your pokemon won't be happy. another down side is that it doesn't feel as good raising the pokemon through battles, than rare candies.
