Question:

Are there any environmentalist surfers out there?

I'm trying to arrange a surfing event with an environmental-friendly theme...

What do you think would be a good activity (other than surfing, of course) to arrange in that event?

Would surfers be interested in beach clean-up activities or something similar?

  1. Surfrider Foundation. Also, check local/regional surf organizations, ESA for example. All REAL surfers are environmentalists. We want to keep the ocean alive and clean forever.

  2. Hey Man! Good initiative!

I’m all into getting people to stop using plastic bags. Print something sweet on a eco-bag and give them out during an event. Some bands that support the scheme, eco beer and wine, eco snacks. Yeah, the works! I would definitely enjoy that. And appreciate an eco-bag.  Good luck! Keep it real!

Good site for others that care:

Check out this one. I dig their merchandise.

  3. Honestly for the beach clean-up activity I am all for the enviorment along with many other surfers but, the clean-up is not the best idea.  I would do something like a fund raising surf contest and the winner gets some sort of trophy with a small cash reward, like a $20 entry fee, and a $100 reward to the first place, $50 to second place and $25 to third place and they all get medals or something.  That would be fun, raise money and you could get  maybe a clean-up crew out of the people that watch, like to get a hotdog you have to pick-up however much trash or something like that =D.

  5. Surfrider Foundation.  Tons of chapters throughout the US and a few overseas as well.  They are not only about things like keeping beaches clean but actually protecting the breaks themselves from environmental impact such as beach nourishment projects and marina construction.  They are also big on maintaining the right of public access to the beaches.

Maybe hook up with them for International Surf Day (June 21).  My local chapter sponsors our ISD event.

  6. yea i uh, monitor the marine inhabitant population...
