1. Flying is still the cheapest, on the whole. There are still some freighters that take passengers but your chances of finding one that leaves from Newfoundland is not too good. Most seem to leave from Montreal or the US east coast because that's where the freight is. They're cheaper than cruise ships but not cheaper than flying. Maybe you can find a yacht to crew on, that would be a cheap way of getting across the ocean.

  2. No.

Ferries travel short distances, ships that go further are called cruise ships and they cost a fortune.

Your best bet would be to Google your question and then wait for cheap airfare from St. John's to London.

  3. Ferries are out of the question, they do not cross the ocean. If you are looking for cheap, and I take it that you do not want to fly (even though that would be the fastest and cheapest in the long run) I would suggest that you find a freight cargo ship. They sometimes allow a certain amount of passengers to take the trip. There is no entertainment on these ships, and no swanky eating,. You dine with the crew. and entertain yourself on the ship. Of course you have to take the same route that the freighter stops and stop where ever they stop, there is not express freighter lanes...it is your choice.
