I want my husband to take our 4 year old daughter to the pool, but I don't want her changed at home because it will get the car seats wet. Is it appropriate for a father to bring his daughter into the men's locker room to change if there's no family room? Would it be inappropriate for him to strip her naked?

  1. I dont see any problem with it.I have a 9 year old girl that is handicap and i take her in the mens all the time. She also showers in front of everyone.I have had only one man complain ,because my daughter was looking at him.I told him about her problem, and also told him it was ok to shower. My daughter told him the reason she was looking at him,she never seen any one taking a shower with there trunks on..I also dont care if they see here as long as they dont stare at her or play with themselves.

I have never seen a pervert in the men locker room.,There is only a problem with  taking your opposite s*x kid in  the locker room if you make one.But i do think if you take your kid in there they should undress and dress, and take a shower like everyone else.

  2. Im a single dad and I take both my son and daughter.  They can change themselves.  There is a "family room" but the attendent with access is never available and im not sending my daughter into the womans alone.

  3. I don't have kids but I have a niece and nephew.  They know I swim regularly and pestered me to take them to the pool but I thought if I took him and not her it would hurt her feelings.
When I switched to swimming evenings instead of mornings I saw a guy bring his kids in the locker room, a young daughter, not sure how old but prob too young to go by herself in a public locker room, so I just accepted it. Over a couple weeks I noticed other dads do the same.  So I couldn't see any reason not to bring both my nephew and my niece.  I never asked about any age rules.  She's 9, but small for her age, and pretty sensible.  They have a posted policy about taking a soap shower before entering the pool area.  So while us guys are showering I just wave her through already in her suit.
And so far there's been no fluff.
Sending young kids in there own in a public locker room is foodhardy. So I think taking them with your makes sense.

  4. I think the answer is a great big "no." Locker rooms are for people of the same gender--period. Most pools now offer family changing rooms. While parents may be comfortable with their own children in the locker room with them (regardless of gender), they cannot presume that the people in the locker are comfortable with it and cannot make decisions for them.

A personal story comes into play. My body conscious, 16 year old son was with me one day when a man felt it was OK to bring his daughter who was about 5 or 6 into the locker room. My son was in full view after taking off his bathing suit. To his total humiliation, the father and the young girl were our neighbors. You never know who you will meet and you cannot be so self-centered to presume people will be comfortable with your choices. If a parent cannot change his or her child of the opposite gender privately, that parent may have to wait until the child is older to engage in gym related activities.

  6. I don't see any problem with it.  Not all men are perverts.  If the dad is comfortable with taking his young daughter into the locker room with him I don't think anyone else should mind.  I was in a the mens locker once years ago when a dad left his two young girls, about 6, and 8, sitting just inside of the mens locker room while he took a shower and got dressed. They were sitting where they could see everyone in there.  At first I thought they were two boys.  I didn't realize they were girls until I was leaving and walked by them.  I have to admit I was a little surprised at first, but as I thought about it, if it didn't bother the father or the girls it shouldn't bother me.  I would feel safer taking her into the locker room than leaving her outside the door by herself.  Women take young boys into their locker room and this accepted for the most part.  Little kids should not be taught that nudity is bad.  If grown ups don't make big deal out of it the kids will probably think nothing of it.
