My friend is having a baby in October. I thought of giving her seeds that would bloom every year around the baby's birthday. Is there anything that can be planted and will bloom in the fall???

  1. chrysantemum blooms in the fall.  Buy a plant though, not seeds

  2. Gladioluses grow in the fall months. They are cool flowers. They bloom in spring and then die and then come back again in the fall months.

  3. Chrysanthemums are traditional fall plants but not easy to grow year after year.

Michaelmas Daisies bloom round Michaelmas, which is September 29.

A great plant for fall flowering is the Japanese Anemone, which has nice white or pink flowers.

  4. The very dearest plant to remind one of a little baby girl in October would be Cyclamen Neapolitanum, which suddenly appears like little pink butterflies hovering in the air about 3" tall. Later, as the blooms are developed and fading, the gorgeous leaves emerge like fanciful mottled ivy leaves. The corm expands yearly to a vast saucer, the blooms becoming more and more numerous and charming.

There are other fall-blooming species as well, but C. Neapolitanum is the easiest and hardiest.

Be sure to mark this plant extremely well, as it disappears with a completeness that often has the gardener raking it up and tossing it onto the compost pile.

  5. There are also many fall blooming bulbs that would be an easily-maintained plant for fall color. Consider fall blooming crocus, cyclamen, painted lillies, dahlias, and some Amaryllis'.

    Great idea for a gift!

  6. Asters,  Mums.

  7. some fall flowering plants are Sedum, Chrysanthemum and Rose of Sharon.

  8. mums bloom in the fall.
