  1. Stay away from hot dogs! The nutritional value as well as the potential choking that could take place is zero! Hard Candies, nuts and popcorn you most definitely don't want to give to the baby. Gradually see what the child can tolerate because you don't want your child to be on the Maury show!  Good Luck!

  2. i wouldn't say can't but i'd try not to give them candy and chips, junk food, fast food. i'm a healthy person so these thing are important to me. it's sad seeing an overwieght child because the parents are lazy, and that's what they are. it's easier to give your child apple slices than fry up some french fries. don't mean to sound like i'm talking to you alone, i'm just saying stay away from the junk!!!

  3. you can give them rice something soft mashed patoes and finger foods its so good and good for babys

  4. I wouldn't give them whole peanuts / chips / hard candies / spicy foods...etc

  5. dont listen to #3hot dogs an grapes are fine just cut them up i have a ten year old who is picky because i didnt feed her that stuff in the begening

  6. In addition to the first response, I wouldn't give him hot dogs or grapes.

  7. In general, after 12 months, babies can eat just about anything provided it is able to be cut up small, is soft, and doesn't pose a choking risk.  Nuts, along with nut butters, are recommended for after age 2 and some doctors will suggest after 3 if there is a family history of food allergies.  Many foods, such as hot dogs and grapes, can be given safely to toddlers provided they are cut small.  I have been a mom for 29 years to 4 kids plus I am grandma to a 15 month old grandson and I have provided child care in my home for 20 years.  Grapes, cut in 1/8's and hot dogs cut in 1/4's then sliced into small pieces can easily be eaten by younger children until they can thoroughly chew.  I actually continue to cut grapes and hot dog slices in 1/2 until the child turns 5.  You'll want to avoid hard candy.  Because it doesn't dissolve quickly in the throat and it is usually round there is a risk of choking.  Popcorn is hard for children under 2 to chew well, so you'll probably want to watch that, too.  Other than those few things, your 17 month old should be able to eat nearly everything you do.

  8. I would avoid small foods, like candy, and common allergens, such as nuts.  You don't want to give a child peanuts so early because you don't know if they are allergic and they won't be able to communicate with you if they are having problems.  Also, avoid foods that are hard to chew or swallow.

  9. Choking hazards:  popcorn, whole nuts, hard raw veggies, whole grapes, hard candy. Meat should probably still be cut up for him, and fish checked carefully for bones.

    Alcohol.

    Keep caffeine to a minimum.

    Anything he's allergic to.

  10. Chips
