Are there any foods that cannot be taken into a Mexican port town from the US?

I am having a discussion on another forum and some people are under the impression that I could get a $10,000 fine for bringing a bag of chips or a bagal off a cruise ship into Cozumel. I have looked everywhere and only found restrictions on bringing fruits, vegetables and meats BACK into the US. Anyone know the skinny on this?

That is not true. Any passenger arriving to Mexico by air or by sea can bring their personal luggage (go to the Mexican customs page to see what's included) and there's a $300 USC franchise for merchandise that's not included in  "personal luggage".

A bagel and a bag of chips can be brought into Mexico without any problem, you can't bring any fruits, vegetables, meat or dairy products.

There is no such thing as a $10,000 dollar fine. If you bring anything that is prohibited, it will be taken from you, and if you exceed the franchise you will have to pay import taxes of 15% of the value of whatever you are bringing.
