I'm replacing my 1986 4.9 in line six with a newer one,a 1989 4.9 in line six. the 1989 doesn't have a mechanical fuel pump, only a place where it could be. can I drill it out and use a mechanical fuel pump or do I have to change to an electric pump?

  1. Fitting an electric pump is far easier, and there are plenty about - I'd suggest get one the same as the donor vehicle.

  2. If you had told me exactly what vehicle do you have I could've told you exactly what fuel pump do you need.

    or just go to...

    www.motorparts.com

  3. Generally, fuel injected engines need an electric pump.  A carburated engine can use either electric or mechanical.
