Are there any free or reasonable preschools in wv?

i cannot afford to pay for school. my son is 4 and id really like to put him back in school. he was in a free pre school but he came home with a black eye and his mouth full of blood on two different occasions. so im scared to put him back in but he needs it really bad. please serious answers only

Supposedly, WV has pre-kindergarten programs, but I can't seem to find specific info. (maybe I'm just tired . . .). I'd contact your local school district or look up their website. You might find information there.

Call your local elementary school, social service agencies, and churches and make a list of the programs they tell you about.  Then call those programs individually and ask lots of questions.  Ask what license they have, what sort of credentials their teachers have, and what kind of schedule the children follow.  Make sure the schedule provides both structured activities, and free choice time.  Try to observe a class in progress.  Once you have chosen a program, try to volunteer some time in the classroom on a regular basis, once a month or more if you can.  That way you can see firsthand what your child is experiencing.

Don't over look Head Start.  They have excellent programs in many areas.

Also, do report the program where you had problems.  There is most likely a social agency in your area that monitors preschool programs and they will want to be aware of the problems you experienced.  Call any social service agency and they should be able to help you locate the appropriate agency in your area.

First you need to report the child care center to your state licensing agency. If you don't another child could be seriously injured or killed. Second, if you qualify for public assistance you can go to many different centers at reduced or free costs. You can speak with your local human services (food stamp dept) agency.

I would check with the local school district to see if they have a preschool program. We have one called the ABC Program. It has income requirements, but it is a well structured program with qualified teachers that know how to handle situations that you described.

The only free preschools would be the public schools in your district if your son qualified.
