  1. The only "free" homeschool program in Chicago, which isn't really homeschooling, it's public school at home, is the Chicago Virtual Charter School, but it's only for K-9, unless they add high school next year.

If you want to just get a GED, then contact your local adult education office.

  2. You should contact the Chicago Public Library regarding the requirements/testing procedures for the GED.  There is a free online GED study program; the link is below:

Once you have mastered the study materials at this site, you can take the GED test.

    I hope this helps.

  3. If you want, you can simply study for and take CLEP tests for college credit.  There are colleges that will accept you as a transfer student even if you don't have a high school degree.  If you borrow the books and CLEP manuals from libraries or get them second hand, it won't cost much.  Sounds like you are in an area that would have a choice of testing dates and locations, too.

DANTES tests are just like CLEPS, but sponsored by the military and usually less expensive to take.

You could use the credit you get in college classes and call it "dual credit" for high school and award yourself a homeschool high school diploma, I bet.

Sometimes a GED doesn't look good on job applications, if that is of any concern to you.  Having a home school diploma and college credit would probably make you look like a motivated achiever.

    Hope this helps!
