  1. buy a volleyball net then play volleyball

  2. marco polo...um i don't really play games, i just swim laps and do backstrokes, breaststrokes etc.

  3. Well there is Marco Polo, you could play volleyball, you could get rings or coins for throwing on the bottom.

  4. Well it depends on age groups and the dimensions of your pool.

If you are talking about kid games, then there are a ton of those online (link below for a few).  But I'm assuming you're a bit older (I don't know many kids who'd be interested in this website), so here are some games you can play without feeling like you're 9 years old again:

    CATEGORIES:

Very common game; skip to paragraph 2 if you know the rules:

One person (The Chaser) who starts at one end of the pool, facing away from everyone else on the other end of the pool.  (S)he picks a category (ex: animals); everyone else chooses a word associated with it (ex: elephant), and then the chaser starts to rattle off different words in that category.  When the chaser says one of the other participant's words, that person needs to sneak over to the chaser's side.  The participant's goal is to touch the other end of the pool.  If the chaser hears noise, the chaser can turn around; if someone is trying to sneak to the other side, the chaser can chase that person down.  If (s)he catches him, the tagged person becomes the Chaser.

The adult twist is that you can make that game REALLY funny.  We had categories "s*x positions (missionary, cowgirl, etc.)," "types of g*y guys (bears, twinks)," and "creepy fetishes (I won't even go there".  It really was a riot.

    WATER POLO:

If you don't have a long enough pool, you may want to try half-court water polo (most are long enough for casual w.p., though).  If you're ingenious enough you can make your own goal (bedsheet + PVC piping) and just pay for a cheap polo ball or Nerf ball.

    NERF:

Speaking of Nerf, almost all of their stuff it good for the pool.  You can experiment with adapting different sports to the water (Rugby, maybe?)

007 (I made this one up, but I'm sure others have done this one before):

One thing we did was put a bunch of inner tubes in the pool and each bought one of those Nerf ball guns or any other other projectile launching toy.  The Nerf ball guns we bought weren't that great after you get them dunked in water, so if you could find a toy gun that can be submerged I'd go with that.  Anyway, basically you hide behind inner tubes, manoever around, and shoot at people.  Just don't do something stupid like get a paintball gun.  You could use super soakers, but the challenge was that you had to scramble for ammo (nerf balls, etc.).  The problem with the nerf guns was that water can really s***w with the mechanics.

Of course the larger dimensions of your pool, the more options you have.  If you have a really small pool, you really are limited to just the no-contact sports, like water badminton and water volleyball (I still suggest water polo, but you have to be really careful with that; keep collision to an absolute minimum).

Finally, experiment around with it.  You can just walk through a wal-mart and make some games up for yourself.  The 007 game I made up was something I made up on the fly, and it's one of the best games.
