Question:

Are there any gender-based privileges you can do without?

Not long ago, I asked if there were any legal rights you could do without. Now we're getting into unwritten privileges that one gets simply by virtue of being male or female. If you would prefer to abandon any of these, what are they, and why don't you want them?

  1. I know.

What a drag.  You go into the women's lavatory and there are no men taking a p**s at a urinal.

  2. Seems to me to be two discrete issues here. Firstly, what  gender-specific privileges could you survive without?- answer-all of them, natch; none are essential to life.Secondly which such privileges would you prefer to do without? answer-none.I'll take what perks I can, thanks very much.

  3. I might be being blind here (and will stand corrected of course), but I cannot presently think of any unwritten privileges of being male.  I can think of several responsibilities, but no 'social advantages'.

I hope others will be more inspired today.

    EDIT:

Thought of one:  the belief that I am entitled to drink as much as I like, whereas women have to be socially restricted to one or two drinks at business functions.  I mean, we are all staying in the same hotel at most of these functions, but you see pissed blokes in suits telling women to not have more than one or two drinks...because it reflects poorly on the company.

Another (on a roll now) I could, theoretically, s***w around and then be described as "The Man", but a woman would be held to be easy or S****y.  I see no grace or honour in a bloke s******g around either but even women consider it more aceptable for a bloke.

    EDIT

As a European, I also tend to agree with the doing away of segregated toilets, but in many countries, I believe that this is unlikely.  Nor is it really a big deal.

  4. All of them - every perk has a downside that makes you seem dependent on that perk.  If we live in a civil society, we should all treat each other pretty much the same anyway so I wouldn't be losing much :-)

  5. Wow good question.  I honestly don't know any prividledges(spell?) specifically for women to have.  Can you be more specific? Thanks!

  6. The "privilege" of showing affection to anyone, at anytime.  Not all women are huggers!

  7. Edit : my bad, I thought you meant the gender based priveleges that exist in society.

These of course are all biased strongly in favor of females.

In terms of me, and the gender based priveleges that I could do without, no there are none.

Guys have no rights or priveleges in todays society.

  8. The draft, aka conscription, whereby young men are accorded the privileged status of cannon fodder.

  9. I'm with Catherine.  Lets do away with segregated toilets.

  10. The right to have babies.
