Are there any geniuses who thought to themselves, "I'm a genius!"?

Only a fool will call himself a genius. It is other people who decide that he is a genius or not.

It's the work that one produces that is really the determining factor of a genius, and since it's incredibly hard to be objective about your own work, or to achieve the kind of acclaim that the term genius denotes solely by your own endorsement, it's the way others perceive it that determines whether it's genius, and that therefore, you are a genius. Yes, there are IQ tests you can take that can verify your actual intelligence, but having a high IQ does not truly equate to genius any more than owning a paint set and canvas makes  you a painter. It's not as if you have your score tattooed on your forehead, after all.

Believing in yourself & having confidence in your work isn't the same as declaring yourself a genius..........

It's folly to pronounce yourself a genius, but yes, I'm sure many have. Whether they went down in history as a genius is whether others agreed.

You should read "Amsterdam" by Ian McEwan because one of the characters, Clive, declares himself to be a genius and then tries himself absolutely mad trying to determine if he truly is one.

I think quite a few of the greats would know that they are above normal standards in their area. For some this would definately go to their head, and they would call themselves geniuses.
