  1. First Giraffes are not a forest species.  Imagine trying to run through a forest with that neck when a predator was after you.  No way!  Instead giraffes live on the savannahs which is where forest and grasslands meet.  It is too dry and too many fires for trees to grow well but enough rain to get some trees.  There are few of these places in India so no giraffes.

    There is a giraffe relative that lives in the forest however.  They have much shorter necks and legs.  Look up okapi photo and you will find an animal that looks like a cross between a goat, a horse, and a zebra.  But if you ignore the color and pretend it has long legs and a long neck you will see the giraffe in it.  They live in the rainforests of Africa.

       Wrong continent! They are onlly native to Africa - but you never know there may be the odd escapee from a zoo!
