Are there any good UFC/MMA matches that pit a boxer against an MMA fighter?

I want to see a fight where a straight boxer pits his skills against an MMA fighter or even a straight ground fighter.

    Original UFC

  2. the closes thing you will get to that is watchin a kimbo slice fight. he is a heavyweight that got his name in underground fist fights. boxing is his forte

  3. Art Jimmerson, 1983 Golden Gloves champ, record of 29-5 (or something similar), no. 10 IBF light-heavyweight in the world vs. Royce Gracie.

Just since Jaybee mentioned Kimbo Slice, here's Kimbo vs. a low-level MMA guy in one of Kimbo's streetfights (the MMA guy was signed by the UFC after this, got beaten and put in the hospital for two weeks by another low-level MMA guy):

Boxing vs. BJJ- read the description:

Genki Sudo vs. Butterbean (probably my favourite- Bean has a record of 77 wins, 58 by knockout, and seven losses. Genki has an MMA record of 15 wins and 5 losses):

  4. There are very few matches between a boxing-only fighter and a grappler or MMA fighter.

As someone has mentioned, Art Jimmerson vs. Royce Gracie at UFC 1 was a true boxer vs. grapper match.  It ended as soon as Royce Gracie took it to the mat.  Jimmerson was a well ranked boxer in his weight class at the time.

Melton Bowen vs. Steve Jennum was another one, at UFC 4.  Jennum was the controversial champion of UFC 3 after Royce had to drop out.  Jennum was trained in ninjitsu but was a novice grappler.  Jennum took out Bowen after a few minutes of nice techniques Bowen had no defense against.

Butterbean's early matches were boxer vs. grappler.  Butterbean has gone on to train with BJJ practitioners to develop his ground game, if you can believe it.

All boxers now must train all aspects of the game or they face a certain, quick loss (and possible injury).  An OK ground game won't even suffice any more.  Just look at Phil Baroni vs. Nishijima at Pride 32.  Nishijima is a respected boxer and everyone thought his match with Baroni would be a striking game.  Baroni instead took Nishijima down immediately and executed an elementary keylock.  Baroni is not known for submissions and has only two in his career.

Those examples are about the only you need to know that pure boxing never wins against MMA or grappling when MMA rules are applied.
