I am 13 years old looking for a good summer camp. I want this camp where you ride ALOT and spend ALOT of time near the horses. Also, I am a good rider, but I want it to be a camp where you learn alot and improve on your skills and get to do things like, try other disciplines, ride BAREBACK, and you dont feel too rushed. So, you get free time as well to relax. Oh and only answer if youd actually had experience with this camp, or have been there or something. (and I hope its not an extremely strict camp.

Thanks,

Bridget*

  1. While I didn't go to the camp, I did go to the Grier School, which hosts the  Allegheny riding camp.  I have heard great things about the camp as well.

Not sure if they ride bareback at the camp or not.  I certainly don't agree with the responder who said you would never be able to ride bareback unless it is on your own horse.  When I learned to ride, many years ago, we rode bareback on school horses on occasion and I know the riding school still offers a bareback class (on school horses) at their bi-annual horse show.

Either way, look into the Allegheny Riding Camp.

  2. If your in England then local stables do Pony Club Camp for children(It's either 16 and under or 18 and under) it's expensive a lot of the time but you get an assigned pony/horse and you stay there all week, different yards have different prices, dates, number of rides, ect. but you do get the feel of owning a horse without the bills, or if you've got a horse most stables let you bring your horse along too! I learnt how to jump, gallop, canter(I was pretty novicy then) and also rode bareback at the end with fun horse shows(most make you do a show atthe end of the week, we done dancing but you can do drills and things)

I went to St. Veep, Lostweitheal(south-west england)

  3. Some of us are getting annoyed with the number of questions about going bareback and all of those other fun things. Well, you will never be allowed to do it on any horse but your own. You should learn riding skills and when you get your own horse, you can ride bareback. There is too much liability. You won't be allowed. Sorry.

  4. Well if you live anywhere near Ohio, theres a camp called Marmon Valley Farm. Very good place! I grew up here! Well kinda at least. but really their website is www.marmonvalley.com . Im not sure if they still do this, but they use to be able to work out a two week thing if you were traveling a great distance. They go by CHA levels and if you are in a high enough level you get to ride bareback. In the arena of course. but you get to do loads of fun stuff. check out the website! Camp only runs through the summer though. They also have camps that are just about the horses and you spend almost all day working with the horses and learning. LOTS OF FUN!!!

  5. Where are you located? I know a week long camp, rideing 3 times a day, GREAT HORSES, alot of hands on learning and fun, gymkhana classes too.

    its located  Frederick, MD

  6. I went to Foxfield, it's in California. I have heard of people flying there from out of state. It's a really fun camp. They have a night called bareback night where they do a mini show. I got first place, I think it was because my horse had a bony back and the most ackward canter ever. Many people fall off of him bareback and I was able to canter him without falling or almost falling.

  7. In response to some of the previous answers- Im in pony club and we just did a camp in July, usually pony club camps are only for those who belong to that branch, unless they don't have alot of riders then other people from different clubs may come. As far as I know, you need to be a member of pony club to go to one of their camps- that could just be where I live though. However, if you enjoy riding and learning horsemanship, pony club is an EXCELLENT way to learn. Depending on where you are, you get a pony club lesson and you get horsemanship lessons- we do that all winter.

Not sure of any camps where you can ride bareback though.. I have been to pony club camps and thats it, because they do english. Most overnight camps are doing other activities plus only western riding, I have never rode bareback at a camp- I don't think you can. I have gone bareback riding around my barn with friends on our horses but thats about it.

You'll have to do some searching if you want to find a camp like that in your area since we don't know where you live.
