  1. A free alternative to PhotoShop is GIMP. While it is as powerful as PhotoShop, it's a bit harder to use. If you can't get your head around it, check some tutorials on YouTube:

    http://www.gimp.org

    Hope that helps.

  2. The most capable image editor that you can get for free is the Gimp, www.gimp.org. It is a little difficult to learn because the interface is different, but many people use it including professionals. It is OpenSource and legal and free for anyone to use, and there are forums and user groups as well as a couple of books. Unlike most of the other free image editors you will find, it supports layers, like Photoshop. This makes many more things possible.

Good luck, and enjoy whatever editor you choose.

  3. http://www.picnik.com is a good online free photo editor. It even integrates with Facebook!

  4. Picasa is pretty nice; from Google.

Another freeware item is 'Irfanview' with some other functionality not in Picasa.

The last recommendation is 'Pixia' which has almost everything the Photoshop's have, but it's a bit tekky, hard to master, and has occasional  bugs.

    All are free.
