Am going tomorrow ~ not sure if I will enjoy it, but the family are looking forward to it.

What can I do to ensure a fun time?

  1. first off i would go to youtube and press camping tips they really work and second of all be sure to make all your food over the fire not the city slicker way.

  2. Go on bug hunts, if they have a creek, get a net and search for crayfish, clams and minnows, go for a swim, roast marshmallows...(A good easy way to make smoores is to roast a marshmallow and put it between to family digestive cookies).  I just got back from a weekend of camping with 2 five year olds and a 6 year old, we had a blast!!  (I also brought a portable DVD player which came in VERY useful while we were setting up, and when it rained!)

  3. It's peaceful and relaxing. Bring a book and enjoy! Take good walking shoes and go exploring!

  4. Trying very hard to find some good point for camping...

nah, seriously..enjoy the moment with your family. Sometimes events that we dread often turn out to be ok in the end.

  5. Yeh it gets you out of the house, and take your own tent##

  6. Go with a open mind, don't think you will not like it till you try it. Also take things you like to do. Books, CD's, anything that makes you happy.

  7. Go kayaking or white water rafting kinda thing.

  8. Bring some booze.

  9. It means you are flexible about where you go - I just had a camping trip that was ruined by Millet's tent pole snapping - and made worse by the awful staff of Ayr whose reaction was all kinds of accusations  - avoid this bunch.

    Watch the weather !

  10. Do away with a tent and use a hammock and tarpaulin cover.

The comfort this offers is heavenly.

  11. lol i personally hate it but its good 4 ur health........try tellin ghost storries by the fire late @ nite!!! thats my fav thing bout camping

  12. take a bloke,s*x in a tent outweighs the rain n boredom

  13. Have a camp fire and cook sausages and marshmallows on sticks. Alcohol is also a good idea, but be careful around the fire.

  14. It depends where you go really.

OK there are a few inconveniences you have to suffer - like no en-suite bathroom however that never killed anyone.

Imagine waking up, opening the tent door to see the surise, or sitting outside to see a nice sunset?

Then there is the feeling of getting away from everything. No TV - imagine no big brother for a whole week! How could you survive.

The kids will love it, free space to run about - all within sight of you but far enough away to have freedom

There is a sort of community in a campsite - even if its just nodding at a stranger at 2 in the morning as you go for a pee, it does seam more friendly

Depending where you go there is the possibility of open fires or BBQ at night

And then again, with your 2 kids you could go away, abandon them and get drunk like some of the other answerers suggest you do
