I am hoping to perform in public as a poet / storyteller and wondered if anyone had knowledge of good books or tapes etc available for studying to improve my performance? I live in England.

  1. i would investigate books involving public speaking and/or take a theatre class. you might consider taking both. the one true job of a play is to tell a story and the purpose of public speaking is to give information...you are trying to do both so both sides would be useful. if you're looking for a cheaper way, then just do it. find someone who is willing to listen to you because a lot of it is just practicing. there's a gentleman named Garrison Keillor, he's on our public radio station here in the states. he has a radio show and a lot of it is him telling stories. he's an amazing story teller, try listening to how he goes about it. good luck!
