  1. Different seeds have different needs for germination.  Depends on what you planted.  Most, but not all, need moderate moisture, a little bottom heat and typically a plastic cover of some sort over the seed-bed to hold in moisture until the seeds sprout.

Also, use a sterile soilless seed starter mix for your seeds for best germination.

However, be aware that not all seeds need the same thing.  Some need light, some need dark.  Many have long time spans until they sprout so you have to know your type of seed.

  2. Different seeds have different germination rates.  Some sprout in a few days, some can take weeks.  Some, even several months.  It all depends on what KIND of seeds you're growing.

Mostly seeds need to be kept moist.  If they dry out in the middle of germinating and/or sprouting, they die - since they don't have roots extending anywhere to tap into the moisture below.

Some seeds need light to germinate, some don't.  Because of that, some seeds you actually bury, and some you merely sprinkle a thin layer of soil over the top and press gently - so that the seeds get light.

If you tell us WHAT you are growing, we can be more specific with the "tips".
