Are there any government aids that help pay for healthcare even if you have insurance?

I will be getting surgery soon, but my insurance only covers 80% of it and I can't afford to pay the rest. I don't think I am eligible for Medicaid, is there any government aid that could help me? (I love in Missouri).

  1. Unless you have children under the age of 18, are blind aged or disabled, you will not qualify for medicaid in Missouri.

Contact the hospital where you are having your surgery and ask if they offer financial assistance and if so, what you need to do in order to qualify. (Usually this is the Business Office or Admitting Dept.) If you don't qualify for that, you will have to arrange with them to make payments.

  2. It's typical for health insurance to pay 80%.  When you get the bill that shows how much the insurance has paid, you then call patient accounts and let them know your financial situation, and explain that you can only pay $20 or $30 a month.  They will be very accepting of this but only if you consistently make the payments each month.
