Question:

Are there any green carpet cleaning solutions for use with a SteamVac?

I purchased a Hoover SteamVac, and it works really well. The only issue I have with it is that I've read several places that the carpet cleaning solution that the vac uses is really unhealthy for kids and pets. Because of this, I've been using only water to do light cleaning on the carpet, and using the solution only once in a really long while. I would like to avoid using it altogether though, but the directions for the vac say only to use the Hoover cleaning solution.

Does anyone know of any all natural solution, or home made solutions that can be used? Also, does anyone know if using something besides the Hoover solution is bad for the machine?

Thanks!

  1. i agree with Alvarz (above).

also, you can spot clean carpets by sprinkling the dirt with bi-carb soda, and then adding white vinegar, let it fizz and dab dry. follow with a steamvac using water and vinegar.

you can also use straight vinegar if you like.

  2. you can mix clear vinegar in with the warm water you are now using.

When no one wil be home for a day you can also use a combo of water and amonia in the steamer to deoderize it realll well. But you need to let it air out completely afterwards.

Amonia is really a gas in water---it will dissappate completely.
