  1. this is tricky say you cant have a sawed off shotgun...

get a shotgun with a short combat barrel and a collapsable stock.

it depends on your state if assault rifles are legal to own then theres basically unlimited options for firearms that is.

  2. The largest rifle a private citizen can own, to my knowledge, is the 50 caliber Barrett assault rifle. Anything bigger is off limits.

  3. most fully automatic weapons (ie full auto machine guns) are illegal to own.

  4. Machine guns unless you have a rare  federal license for one.

  5. Stun guns or tasers because they are known to kill.

  6. If you can own it, you can defend yourself with it.  You need a permit for a machine gun, a short barreled rifle or shotgun (barrel is under 16"), and a silencer (some paperwork and a $200 tax/transfer fee).  If you so chose, you could defend your home with a cannon, as the BATFE does not consider it a destructive device, same with a flame thrower.

Some states may restrict you even further in this regard, but as long as you can legally have it in that state, you can defend your home with it.

  7. No unlicensed fully automatic weapons or sawed-off shotguns or other short-barreled long guns, or heavy artillery.  Other than that, there aren't any federal regulations I'm aware of.

In some places, the city and state may place restrictions on gun ownership (even though most such restrictions were recently ruled unconstitutional, apparently some jurisdictions are still making things very difficult).
