  1. i understand your situation, there are earplugs available for babies in department store, i have some here, try to ask the sales ladies in your place, or you can order thru net..

  2. Not all children have a problem with the pressure changes in their ears.

Depending on the age of your child, here are a few things you can do in case your child does have problems:

For take-offs and landings (the WHOLE way up, and starting from the BEGINNING, or TOP of descent -about an hour before landing), the best ways to alleviate ear pressure are to:

8If you child is nursing, nurse him/her

*Give him/her something to drink (formula, milk, water, juice - it doesn't matter)

    *Tell him/her to yawn

    *Give him/her gum to chew

*Give him/her hard candy or mints to suck on

*Pinch his/her nostrils shut, have him/her take a deep breath in through the mouth, then tell him/her to (gently) blow as if trying to blow his/her nose

*Place hot damp towels (usually like the ones distributed to first and business class before take-off and landing to freshen up with - just ask a flight attendant for them) or paper towels that have been soaked in hot water and wrung out, at the bottom of two paper or styrofoam cups, then hold the cups over the ears

*Gently but with some pressure, rub his/her neck repeatedly from the chin to the base of the neck. This will cause a swallowing motion that will relieve pressure build-up in the ears.

I've been flying internationally & domestically with my children since they were each 2 months (now 8&6,&6 months). At least three trips a year are the children & I traveling internationally (14+ hours each way) alone. We do another 8-10 international and domestic flights a year as a family. I have never had any problems with my children.

I wrote a small article about flying with children that goes more in-depth, gives security rules & regulations for the US, EU, UK, & Australia, offers tips & tricks for the travel, etc. http://www.angelfire.com/jamiehassen79/f...

If I can be of any more help or assistance, please feel free to contact me.

  3. A baby will sleep after the take off.

They get motion sickness, nothing to do with the ears.

They need to be bottle fed if they are young prior to take off and this seems to help with the ears as they swallow.

I see this in kids less than 3 months old.

Older kids are just confused to the many people around them in a confined space and will sleep later on.

    Been there and done that.

Never get upset that all the passengers are looking, even now on my travels I have learnt the above and have a great deal of patience with the people on board with youg kids.

    Part of life eh.

  4. I think you should patent your child if it can reduce noise and air pressure on flights!

  5. to reduce air pressure depending on the age of the child give he/she a pasifier the sucking and swallowing should help reduce the pressure.

  6. Give the baby a bottle to suck on, or a dummy/pacifier, during take off and landing, this helps with the ear pressure. As for the noise, ear defenders if the baby will keep them on!

  8. your over protective.. chill out, your baby will be fine!

  9. Try giving them something to suck on. It will reduce some pressure in the ear. Adults can suck candies instead.

  10. I wouldn't worry about the noise too much.. ( you are a first time mother right (giggle)).  The womb is the most noisy place you could imagine and yes very loud.  Most newborns don't sleep well because all of a sudden it is quiet..  Secondly, the pressure on the plane won't bother the child until the plane starts the landing procedure.  At that point, just breastfeed, or bottle.  The swallowing will help, and if the child is upset it is natural to go for the suckling.  Have fun!!

  11. No headphones.

Many answers critique your anxiety.  That wasn't your question.

Have your baby suck a bottle.  It is the answer, though fluids are questioned on flights.  Be creative then, use the water from the vending machines in the departure lounges only, I believe.

  12. I don't know about headphones, but there are special ear plugs that are sold for this very reason called EarPlanes (see link). I think most babies would be very uncomfortable wearing headphones and would spend most of the trip trying to pull them off.

  13. im not sure but try baby earmuffs theyll help

  14. i've never heard of them. but try giving him/her earplugs and something to suck on, like a large lollipop (large, so they can't swallow and choke!)
