  1. Yes, there are at least 4 groups that I know of.  Here is the text of a blog post I wrote about support groups in the Lakeland area in particular.

If you are new to homeschooling or are just considering the possibility, it's important to have others around you who are knowledgeable and supportive. There are some great homeschool support groups in the Lakeland area.

My family is part of Lighthouse Homeschoolers. This is a large homeschool support group in Lakeland. We have monthly teacher's meetings, field trips almost every Thursday, and many times other days of the week as well, parents only support meetings, a subgroup for children 7 and under, another group for kids 10 and up. The group is Christian based but not Christian exclusive. The group opens for new members each August. You can read more about Lighthouse at http://www.lighthousehomeschoolers.org/i...

Haven Homeschoolers is a group that is similar to Lighthouse, based in Winter Haven. They offer many of the same opportunities. You can read more about Haven Homeschoolers at https://www.homeschool-life.com/sysfiles...

Homeschoolers on the Ridge is a group based in the Winter Haven/Auburndale area. HSOTR has been a group since 1986. They offer monthly teacher meetings, field trips, parent's night out, and small group meetings. You can read more about HSOTR at https://www.homeschool-life.com/sysfiles...

Hope Homeschoolers is a faith based support group in Lakeland. They have monthly park days and mom's meetings. You can contact Nicole Schrader for more information on this group: hopehomeschoolers@juno.com

Evolved Homeschooling is a non religious homeschool group for families in Polk County. You can read more about their group here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/evolvedhom...

Our family has been part of the Lighthouse Homeschoolers group for more than six years. There are so many opportunities for social time, great field trips, interesting discussions, mentoring and encouragement when you are part of a support group. I hope you find one that fits your needs. If you know of a group I didn't mention above, please share it with me. I love to hear about other homeschoolers in our area!

  2. There are certainly plenty of homeschoolers in Floridaa. I'm one and there are at least 400 in our local group, though I'm closer to the Ft. Myers/Naples area. I would check on google. I'm pretty sure I've heard of one near Lakeland.
