  1. More than 300 institutions are listed on HSLDA's informal survey of colleges and universities which welcome home-educated students. Many of these schools actively recruit home-educated graduates because of their maturity, independent thinking skills, creativity and extensive academic preparation. Private schools may award high school diplomas when the student completes the high school curriculum. Many private colleges or universities do not require testing. Occasionally SAT, ACT or GED tests may be required by a college.  Many colleges and universities offer nontraditional programs for off-campus study. Off campus study goes by different names some of these are Distance Learning, Independent Study or Correspondence. It is possible for students to study at home for college credit and full degree programs through distance learning courses, electronic media and CLEP tests. Our son received his Associates of Science degree in management from an accredited distance learning college at age 16.  He then transferred to a local 4 year college for awhile and is currently earning his Bachelors degree from a 4 year university which he expects to receive around age 18. Some home learners enter their chosen fields through apprenticeship programs designed and supervised by parents and professionals.

  2. You can make your own Home School Diploma. You can look at the samples on line.

However ussually the University/ College requires you to also submit other proof os study : eg Standerdised Testing.

In this case IOWA or Stanford Or Toefl , SAT 1 and/or SAT 2

  3. You don't need an accredited diploma to get into college...the diploma that your parents give you is every bit as legit.  Colleges don't generally ask for your diploma - I've never needed to show mine once - they ask for your transcript and SAT/ACT/CLEP/AP scores.

The main reason for a diploma through a program is to save your parents the paperwork.

  4. Yeah. Usually online or private schools that have programs for homeschoolers, but you know you don't need to go thorugh one of these programs to get into a city or state university. Colleges and universities usually have seperate requirements for homeschoolers, understanding that most of them won't have a standard diploma. They still actively recruit and prefer homeschoolers though because of their independence, inteligence, and motivation. Most colleges even have seperate admissions officers to handle homeschool applications. Don't think that you NEED a diploma or a GED to go to college. As a homeschooler, they usually care more about your SAT scores and the rest of your application.

  5. In our state, the parents give the diplomas.  The student applies to any university they wish to attend.  They follow the application process just as if they were a graduate of a government controlled school.

  6. laurel springs! It's by far the best homeschooling program because you actually have teachers. Thousands of celebrities and athletes of all kind have graduated from there such as Raven Symone, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Hayden Paniterre, and Lil Bow Bow. Yes they give you an actually diploma.

PS- I am a current student at laurel springs and love it.
