Are there any intense (Hard-core) hiking trails in the Bay Area (California)?

I am looking for very long trails that require a committement of at least 4-5 hours.

  1. Check out the East Bay Regional Parks.  They have long and short trails.  Some of them go along ridges and look very challenging.

    Also have you ever heard of the Skyline to Sea Trail?  It begins near the crossing of Hwys 9 and 35 (up the hill from San Jose), and goes through Big Basin St. Pk. all the way to the ocean, just north of Santa Cruz.  You can do half at a time.  I have considered trying it in a downhill direction.

    I wouldn't be a bit surprised if there were also some great trails in Marin.  But I'm not from up there.  Here's a page:

  2. maybe annadel in santa rosa or sugarloaf ridge. im not sure if they would be 4-5 hours but if you do a loop all the way around the park in annadel it might be. its pretty big
