Question:

Are there any islands in the Caribbean that do not require a passport?

I personally have a U.S. passport, but neither of my parents do. I was considering taking them to the Caribbean (not sure which island yet), and was wondering which of the islands do NOT require a passport to travel to (most likely plan to fly there).

Thanks for any help

  1. You may go to Puerto Rico or the American Virgin Islands without a passport.

  2. Best to check the State Department website, as the passport regulations are changing.  To fly to the US from the Caribbean you will at some point need a passport.  I'm not sure if that applies to Puerto Rico and the USVI or not.  Check with the State Department.

  3. Puerto Rico & the US Virgin Islands are US territories. You do not need a passport if you are a US citizen. You only need a govt/state issued photo ID or a birth certificate.

  4. Under the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative, all Americans need a passport to re-enter the U.S. if they fly to the Caribbean islands. The only exceptions mentioned in the other post are U.S. territories -- Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands.

If you travel by sea, meaning a cruise, you need a government-issued photo ID such as a driver's license or passport.

So if you want options other than PR or USVI, you might consider a cruise.

  5. For US citizen If you just need a government issued photo ID such as a drivers license. It's like flying in any of the 50 states.

This holds true for Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, St. John & St. Croix in the Caribbean.

Any other islands in the Caribbean or Bahamas you need a passport.

    Hope this helps!
