Question:

Are there any kind of attachments for a Manual Transmission Clutch pedal so someone with short legs can reach?

I stand only 4'11, and I just inherited my sister's Mazda 626. And frankly, my legs are too short to depress the clutch all the way to the floor without pushing the seat up ALL the way to the wheel. (my chest is about 2 inches from the steering wheel) It's extremely uncomfortable, super unsafe, and it makes the learning-to-drive-standard thing way more difficult . Anyone know of any kind of attachment slightly more reliable than my father's recommendation to "duct tape a wood block to it"?

  1. You can use blocks of wood or metal block and dont use duct tape, use bolts and nut with washers and counter sink them into the material, you will also need to apply a piece of non skid material as well with an sticky back to the blocks surface so that you feet will not slide off.

  2. There are different sized blocks that attach to the pedals to make them reach shorter legs.

I would suggest J.C.Whitney online auto catalog at www.jcwhitney.com or contact a contract appliance modeler.

These are the people that make artificial limbs for paraplegic people.  They will have the industrial catalogs necessary to acquire these items.

They usually have their shops near or in Medical Towers and hospital complexes

  3. If you put "clutch pedal extension" into google, you get tons of hits. Lots of medical supply places etc.

This is one of the first hits, http://www.creativecontrolsinc.com/produ... says

    Brake/Clutch PedalMate

        * The brake (or clutch) Pedal Mate is adjustable with extension lengths from 2—7" and at heights ranging between 3—4".

        * Each Pedal Mate is easily positioned to meet your exact requirements.

        * The brake and clutch Pedal Mate is made of sturdy steel and a rubber pad with dimensions of 2½"×4".

...and they have photos that look really good.  I'm sure other places have similar things.

    Good luck.
