Question:

Are there any knitting books for curvy but not big girls, I just can't find patterns that fit?

I'm a UK dress size 10 (US 6 I think), but have a 30F bust and have major problems finding fashionable knits that fit, I can only seem to find knitting patterns that would fit in the bust or the body but not both without major alterations. So does anyone know of a knitting book or website that has designs that are specifically for busty not big girls.

  1. You may want to consider subscribing to Knitting Daily through Interweave.com's Interweave Knits page.  This e-zine is in the middle of a series (the start of it is archived so you can still retrieve it) of positioning and making darts for sweaters for larger or smaller busts.  It is quite well written and will give you what you need to be able to put darts to fit your bust in sweater patterns that otherwise fit you.

  2. there is free knitting/crochet software available for designing and printing patterns of all sizes/shapes/styles at www.greatknitdesigns.com

download 'sweaters' for creating sweaters and cardigans

I use this all the time as it allows you to be more creative with your designs as well as getting a better fit as all the measurements are adjustable within the design window

It is at least worth a try and it is free - good luck

  3. I have a friend with a similar problem.  Usually when I am knitting for her I make the back in the dress size she is (which for you is size 10) and then make the front for bust size (which may be several sizes larger) and it usually works!  She's always been happy with whatever I've made her.

Hope this helps. By doing things this way you can use almost any pattern.

  4. http://knitting.about.com/od/knittingpat...

    http://www.allfreecrafts.com/knitting/in...

    http://www.crochetandknitting.com/easy.h...

All these websites should have good stuff in them.

  5. Try the book Fitted Knits by Stephanie Japel.  It talks about measuring to fit YOU.

There is also some good info on the www.KnittingDaily.com website about bust darts, waist shaping, etc for customizing fit.
