Question:

Are there any languages that don't have any semivowels and diphthongs at all?

If you don't understand, I mean no sounds like /wa/ or /aj/ or /waj/ or /bwaj/ etc...so, they can only have sounds like /ua/ and /ai/ and /uai/ and /buai/ instead...thanks to whoever can answer.

  1. Latin. In choir we all love latin because after you get past the pronunciations, it flows better than most languages, especially english.


  2. Russian. Letters E, Ё, Ю and Я mark two sounds, not diphthongs. But instead we have patalization of consonants which, of course, are not either semivowels or diphthongs.

    Й is a consonant. In Russian, at least. Kaj mi vere estas Esperantisto. Mi ecx sukcesis pri la lingvekzameno, nivelo A (cxe Lernu), do mi jam parolas Eon pli bone ol la angla. :)
