Are you supposed to do anything special if you bring your dogs in the car with you? Is it possible to be pulled over for having dogs in your car? I always bring my dogs and they just sit wherever and stick their heads out the window, but am i supposed to do anything by law if i bring dogs in the car??

  1. You'll probably find you need to put blocks on the pedals so their feet reach, but you'll be okay as long as they aren't over the drink/driving limit.

  2. California is trying to pass a law or has past a law that your pet can not be in your lap while you are driving.

  3. No I dont thinks so, but they should stay in back away from you. they coul distract you from driving.

  4. While a state may not have a specific law requiring pets to be secured, you can be stopped & ticketed if they are causing a distraction to the driver (i.e. climbing into your lap).

I have 5 dogs & 3 cats. Whenever traveling with them (i.e. groomers) the cats all have their own carriers and the dogs* are kept in the cargo area of my truck (I drive an Explorer) by a wire mesh cage. Additionaly the dogs are secured with leashes attached to the truck so they can't run into traffic when I open the door.

*Except the smallest who rides in a travel cage belted into the rear seat.

Even if not required, for your own safety and theirs, keep them secured.
