Question:

Are there any laws about relatives visiting a child at school?

My son's distant relative has begun eating lunch with him every week and staying for recess to have what we see as "pow wows" with his teacher. Are there any rules about who can go in and visit a child (especially if it's not the child's parents)? Any suggestions or facts are helpful, thanks!

  1. I am not sure if there are laws, but if this is a problem for you, I would speak with the relative and ask that they no longer go to your child's school.  You should also speak with the principle of your child's school and his teacher to let them know that you prefer this person no have lunch with your child and they should not discuss anything about your child with this person.

  2. The school is absolutely out of line on this. The visits need to stop immediately and the school absolutely has no say whatsoever in who may see or visit your child ANYWHERE on the school grounds without your permission.

I would be speaking to the administration and if that gets you no where, then I would attend a school board meeting and get on the agenda to discuss it.

This is a security issue not only for your child, but for others as well. No one but parents or the court need access to a child in this manner.

  3. First off the school should need the parents permission if any one relative or not is visiting him. I personally don't think its right and would talk to your relative about it. And talk to the school and tell them you don't want it going on any more.

  4. how distant you need to tell the school not to allow this something is not right  if my brother came to my son's school i would not care but if my third cousin on my mother's sister's husband's side  did i would wonder why.if it's that distant i smell pervert

  5. Absolutely!!   NOBODY should be allowed on campus without the parents permission!!  Go to the office, have the teacher called to the office, explain the situation and say NOBODY is to talk to you child without your permission.  By the way.....it is not a 'rule'.....it is THE LAW!   The visitors can be arrested.

  6. does the relative have your permission to visit your son? if not you need to talk to the school staff and let them know that you don't want this person to be able to see your son with out you present. I also find it odd that your son's teacher will discuss him with someone who is not his parent. I would ask her to stop.

  7. You could get a restraining order, the law is usually that no one but an immediate relative can leave school with the child. But i you don't want this person around your child, notify the school of this and then the police.

  8. I would ask the school. I do think you can request his teacher not share any information with this relative. Each school and state varies on the rules, so ask the secretary or principle what you can do about it.
