  1. Depends where you live. But in most cases , if you live in a city or town, yes there are laws preventing you from having  " livestock " in a residential area.

  2. you cant keep them within the borough limits where i live...but you can if you live out of town...

  3. in most cases you can keep chickens, however in certain areas you are restricted, by waht you can keep.  You will need to also make sure you have enough space for the chickens to spread their legs.  This will help to prevent any comments from animal walfare groups.  You will need to contact your local council to make sure their are no restrictions in your area, residential area.  Also speak to neighbours  to make sure they have no issues.  Aslo make sure you have a secure housing for the chickens to prevent or reduce the possibility of attacks from foxes.

  4. check with your city & county codes.

  5. no theyres no laws because we have 7 but i you get a roaster then you can bee fined for desterbance of the peace we got fined 50 pounds which is lucky because you can be find up to 20,000 pound just sum advice if your thinking of getting one  lol

  6. in the UK chickens come under the heading livestock and in most urban areas keeping livestock upon a residential property is forbidden in local bye laws.

  7. I keep my wife in the back yard and she is fowl but nobody has complained.

  8. You have been given the usual load of cobblers from clowns who have no clue and frankly can be dangerous if anyone takes them seriously.

The planning act gives householders permitted development rights to erect outbuildings subject to siting, size and height to be used for purposes "incidental to the enjoyment of the dwelling house". In other words for normal domestic purposes. The act goes on to say that these purposes include the keeping of animals for the needs of the householder.

The only thing you have to be careful of is other legislation relating to the removal of muck and noise (cockerels and the like), and whether there are any restrictive covenants on your deeds and such like but beyond that you can have your chickens.

If you are a tenant then your landlords permission would be required.

    Hope that helps.
