I was watching the show SPEEDERS and a deputy pulled over a motorist for speeding and improper lane changing. He approached the man and asked him if there was any legal justification for speeding. Are there any? Or was he figuratively speeking.

  1. I would assume that if you were driving your pregnant wife (who had gone into labor) to the hospital and were pulled over for speeding, they would cut you a break.  At least, that's what my uncle did - He's a patrol man with the Sherriff's Dept.  He even gave the couple escort the rest of the way there, lights, siren and all so that people would move over and they could get there ASAP.

Although to be honest, I don't know if that's policy or if my uncle is just cool...  =]

  2. yes there are,

    1. if some1 is dying in your car and your going to the hospital

    2. If your bored

    3. When you get pulled over he will say "do you know you were speeding"

You say "Yes i heard you were waiting for me so i came as quickly as possible"

And he will let you off if he laughs.

    4. if you are trying to run someone over.

BTW only 1 and 3 are real.

  3. Yes, although it is more figurative, there is no written legal reason for speeding, but he meant, dont be stupid. He was asking, is there a GOOD reason you were speeding and not just being an idiot. Its the officer's discretion to ticket or not, so he probably did not want to ticket someone trying to do a good deed such as go and get to a hospital if a doctor, or take a friend to the hospital, or maybe an undercover police vehicle trying to get to a seperate jurisdiction, since most emergency vehicles will turn their emergency lights and sirens of while on highways and freeways to avoid a collision due to confused drivers.

  4. I've gone over the speed limit when my husband was bleeding profusely (no time whatsoever for an ambulance and we live in the country), and when he was stung by a bee (severely allergic and no Epi-pen)...but I made sure that I had my flashers on, obeyed traffic lights and patterns, and stopped only when I got to the hospital.

I think someone's life would justify speeding.

  5. Legally, there is the "reason from necessity," say to avoid a car full of al Qaeda members shooting at you. Then you can speed legally. See Wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Necessity

  6. Violating the speed limit to get a dying person to a hospital.

Violating the speed limit to get a pregnant women to a hospital.
