The video camera would have to be able to operate without any cords to the boat.

  1. This one looks to be in the $300-$400 range...

  2. There are many to choose from. Many major vid cam manufacturers have had housings built for some of their models by 2nd party housing makers, such as Ike lite. http://www.ikelite.com/web_pages/videoon...

If you currently have a vid cam, you may even find a housing that's made for your model, sparing you the expense of a new rig. Keep in mind, a decent housing is going to start at 400 bucks and quickly go up. That doesn't include the camera cost. Buy the best you can afford. A cheap one, if it leaks, will take your cam with it. If at all possible, try using the functions on the housing with dive gloves on before your purchase. It'll give you an idea on what to expect when using it on a dive. That on/off button is kinda important, if you can't reach it, you may as well be holding a rock.

No one takes a camera that's tied to a dive boat. They all have their own power sources unless you're operating a ROV.

  3. I have a jvc hdd camera, it takes no tapes and records in super high defintion the picture is just amazing!!! The camera is about $600 and then they sell the shell for it which is water proof and you can use for diving down to 100ft. You well be amazed at the quality plus you can drop the camera or shake it and it doesn't skip because it writing onto a hard drive not some form of media. The water proof shell runs about $200, its an expensive investment but one of the better investments I've ever made! Good luck and have fun tapeing your adventures!!!
