  1. For import issues you should check the custom and excise website www.hmrc.gov.uk or by ringing them.

I bought my Katana from a distributor in the UK, Hayashi Sports Limited http://www.hayashiuk.co.uk/clothing.asp?... and that avoids the import issue.

  2. Hi there

There are no loop holes as such. From the statement given by the home office the sale and import of replica swords are banned from being sold in the UK to the general public. It does not mention anything about ownership?

It does mention though that people who are practising martial artists can own and purchase swords for training. This  includes arts such as kendo, iaido, aikido etc.  So how do you go about proving you have a license in these arts to a supplier? The sad thing is that most of the real suppliers such as cheness have stopping shipping to the UK regardless. The cheap swords you see on ebay or from most suppliers are generally a waste of money and aren't worth the hassle trying to get hold of.

I welcome the ban as i see no reason why anyone other than students who are training in the arts have any reason to have one. But the law was just rushed through by the MP's. Hasn't stopped street stabbings though. How many was it? Two this week already? Enough said!

    Good luck
