  1. depends when you want to go and where from. check out flightcentre.com.au and they ussually have all the low cost flights and give you prices straight away.

  2. Jetstar, Tiger Airways & Virgin Blue are the best.

  3. Jetstar is a low cost airline in Australia....

  4. Virgin Blue http://www.virginblue.com.au  This was the first to bring cheap air travel to Australia.

Jetstar http://www.jetstar.com.au  A Qantas offshoot to try to get passengers back.

    Rex Regional Express http://www.rex.com.au/

    Adelaide to Kingscote    from $74

    Sydney to Albury    from $79

  5. Virgin Blue is the cheapest deal more so if you book and pay on line, Tiger is new dont know much about it, forget flight centre they charge too much and Jet set and Quantas always are unreliable quantas are about to go on strike again this coming week and they had twenty four hour delays only this week

  6. We've had an airline like Ryanair for years, its called Qantas. Service is the same as Ryanair, but the price is extortionate!

Go with Virgin Blue for anything like a reasonable fare, but don't expect Easyjet or Ryanair prices and beware of the hidden fuel surcharges and taxes..

After the demise of Ansett and Virgin Blue coming on the scene, it was close to highway robbery, on a near three plus hour flight all you got was cold sandwiches! But after Virgin Blue started their flights into Perth they suddenly served a hot meal and a free beer........The joy of competition.

  7. Virgin Blue, Jetstar and Tigerair

I have no experience of Tigerair (fairly new), but of the other two I would definitely choose VirginBlue.  They tend to be cheaper, and more reliable (I have caught about a dozen VB flights and they have all been on time). Jetstar is an off-shoot of QANTAS who are treating their staff pretty badly at the moment so you'd be best avoiding them. Also I'm pretty sure JetStar only flies to Avalon airport in Melbourne, not the main airport, so you will have more hassles getting to the CBD.

Check www.virginblue.com.au for VB flight costs. I have found the fares jump up and down a fair bit so if you've got the time, check the site daily, and buy when it looks lower.

As a guide, Sydney to Melbourne or Brisbane is less than $100 o/w. to Perth is around $200 o/w.

  8. we have 3 low cost airlines, and one 'full service airline' (for major airlines)

    our low cost carriers are...

    Virgin Blue

    Jetstar (owned by Qantas)

Tiger Airways (owned by Singapore Airlines)

there is also Qantas...our full service carrier...but very realy do they provide service!

as for flight prices....as it is getting more competitive; Sydney to Brisbane is as low as $79 AUD..and genreally around $100....as well as their occasional $10 and sometimes $1 fares.

Qantas on the same route is generally around $120-$150.

    hope that answers your question

  9. Virgin Blue

    Jetstar (owned by Qantas)

Tiger Airways (owned by Singapore Airlines)

    Tiger is the cheapest

  10. As has been stated Virgin Blue, Jetstar and Tiger airways are australias cheap airlines. The last two are extremely unreliable with Qantas' Jetstar services always being delayed for some reason or another. Be prepared to miss connecting flights and long waits in airports for their 'service'. Tiger is even worse and is now cutting its destinations almost as soon as they had begun due to not being able to provide adequate service. Best lot of the bunch is Virgin Blue, their staff are friendly and helpful and you rarely have to endure long delays. Qantas' full service flights are well over priced and although the overall service is slightly better it still has room for improvement.

Prices are generally one way and do not contain taxes. So be prepared for more than what is quoted.

  11. Virgin Blue, Jetstar, and Tiger airways. All very basic airlines, not that reliable time wise, but for the price you pay, very good value. I recently got a return fare from Adelaide to Melbourne for a total of 52 dollars. Both my flights on this occasion were on time. The staff on board are all fantastic , theres in flight movies (for small price) and a basic food/drink menu to buy stuff from if you need to.
