Are there any major problems with a '99 Volkswagen Jetta?

Im currently looking at buying a used 1999 Volkswagen Jetta GLS with 123,000 miles, the 2.0 liter engine, etc. I have done some reading on Consumer Reports and have found many complaints on them. Would this car be a good buy? (ie will it last until 200k miles?)

Thanks for any help that you can offer!

  1. Its actually under mileage for its age, how does it run, whether it will last is anyones guess depends on the way it was driven and whether

your a person who does regular maintence. most vehicals are good

vehicals if you take care of them. I like volkswagens, they get excellent gas mileage, which we all need right now. i am about to get a jetta soon, and i have a 87 plymouth horizon which i love.

  2. Truthfully don't buy it Volkswagens are extremely expensive to fix with that many miles on it i say don't buy it cause maybe it has run good up to that point but it may start going downhill and then you have to start puttng money into it.. i have a 2000 Jetta GLS and i bought it from a friend he had all new stuff in it...new tranny, new ac,etc and now it runs great after he put 3.5k in it so depends how deep your pockets are. just recommend something else

  3. if you treat it right and don't try to rice it out you will enjoy it. The parts are no more expensive then a honda or a toyota. Volkswagens are reliable if you keep them up......

  4. All volkswagens are bad... Unless you are talking about the old oil cooled engines..
