I was just wondering guys, do you supply your female students with tampons and pads in case of an emergency. I had my period at school the other day and I was afraid to ask my male teacher because I was unsure if he would even have an extra pad or tampon. Is it required that you have a box of pads or tampons just in case?

  1. I had an open door policy with my neighbor teacher (a female) who had a meeting with the girls in my classroom letting them know that it was okay to ask for this- discreetly- if needed.

    It worked for us both.

  2. Heck no. Male teacher live in fear of being sued. By having those materials in your classroom, you are opening the door to litigation. That is the nurses role, not my teachers, especially male teachers. ALL teachers are required to send students in need of supplies to the nurse. Our kids are good about saying "I have to go to the nurse" and teachers get it. Saves embarrassment for the student and protects my teachers.

  3. These items should be available from the school nurse or from the front office. Ask permission to go to the nurse/office. Do not be afraid to say why. Remember. Be prepared

  4. I never kept any supply.  The few times that I know of such an emergency happening in my classroom, the girl got what she needed from a fellow student, I just did what I could to keep them from feeling embarrased; I do have sisters after all and I would wanted them to have been embarrased in a similar situation.

  5. Go to the nurse/office or better yet, ALWAYS keep some in your locker and bag.

  6. Ask to go to the nurse or main office.

You really should keep a couple extra in your locker just in case.  You can keep them in a small bag or purse so they're not obvious.
