  1. no, no problem for recycling water bottles

  2. The negative is that there are water bottles to recycle. Bottled water is one of the biggest wastes of energy I can think of. Drink tap water and you won't have to worry about recycling the bottles.

  3. The city I live in was very heavy into recycling, especially plastics. Then it slowed down until the plastic collections completely stopped. I have a couple friends on the city council and asked them about it. They said the momentum ran out of the project because there's no money in it. For most (not all) cities and industries, it costs too much to recycle. Sad.

  4. Yes, the water bottle has to be manufactured in the first place.  All plastic bottles use oil.  We need to stop our dependance on oil.  And, plastic water bottles are mostly consumed out of the home where we do most of our recycling.  Most public places (parks, businesses, etc) don't have recycle containers next to trash containers.  Also, have you thought about what goes into that manufacturing a plastic bottle and what could be leaching into your water?  A better solution is to filter your own water at home (Brita Pitchers) and use a re-usable water bottle.

  5. I read in a health magazine, I think it was "Prevention" that one should not reuse plastic water bottles more then twice before they are thrown out (or recycled) because of bacteria. I think as long as you disinfect with a weak javex solution you should be OK
