I arrived in Italy last September 3... and be flying back to Philippines on December 3. While going here, I've got TWO hand luggages.

My worry is : Would they allow me to still carry the TWO hand luggages? OR do they follow some other airports' policies i.e. only ONE hand luggae is allowed?

Thanks in Advance for your help!

  1. New Airport security regulations came into effect in the European Union (EU) on November 6th, as a protection against the new threat of liquid explosives. They apply to all passengers departing from airports in the EU whatever their destination -this includes, of course, Italy.

Among them, the most famous one is the "No Liquids Above 100ml" restriction, according to which any liquid you want to take with your hand luggage -drinks, contact lense liquids,  creams and similar -make-up, mascara, etc, lotions, oils, perfumes, sprays, gels, toothpaste, shaving cream- must be in a  100ml container, and fit in a special transparent, re-sealable 1l bag the Airport shall provide, to seal and travel safely.

Another important point is removing laptops and other electronic devices from their cases or bags, to be screened separately. Jackets shall also have to be removed and screened separately.

As to hand luggage, it seems there shall be a higher restriction coming up in March -56 by 45 by 25 centimeters being the official size then- and not now, in November. Therefore, you shouldn't have trouble because of the hand luggage, but because of what is inside it!

I'd advise you to read the whole regulations at an official site such as www.aena.es and, as they also mention, if you have any doubts, ask your airline or travel agent in advance of travel.

  2. I've just got back from Venice and they're being very strict. One hand luggage bag and maybe a carrier bag containg souvenirs. You will need to put any liquids in a clear resealable plastic bag and show them to the security officials. You can not include any containers which hold in excess of 100ml. Liquid items include mascara, shampoo, conditioner, make up in paste/mousse form, toothpaste etc. You will not be allowed to taked bottles of water onto the plane either you will have to drink them before going through security of leave them behind.
