  1. China will loosen it's restrictions on GMs and start growing these crops. What is GM or GE?

Crops grown from Genetically Modified (GM) seeds sometimes referred to as Genetically Engineered (GMs). These are seeds produced by changing the DNA structure for a specific purpose like being able to withstand ROUND UP pesticide or changes their molecule composition so they may resist certain pests.  Farmers who buy GM seeds found that they soon needed to use more and more ROUND-UP sometimes up to 10x the normal amount.

This affects the environment is several ways.

    1) the soil becomes "contaminated" and the poisons kill good bacteria, animals that may wander into the fields, and farmers cannot plant other crops in these GE fields.

    2) both plants and weeds become tolerant of the pesticide and more and more pesticide is used making the soil less and less fertile and spreading the posions to the environment

    3) the pollen of the GE plants is carried by the wind to other non-GE plants and invades other species and any organic farms in the area become contaminated.

    4) free living bacteria such as tuberculosis is becoming resistent to antibiotics,

    5) insects such as monarch butterflies are dying. The strange disappearance of millions of bees has been attributed to pollen from GE fields. This has serious consequences on the eco-system. Plants depend on these to propogate.

(this in addition to the fact that GM foods are fed to animals and people. Non partitial research indicates the harmful effects include not only increased food allergies, but liver & kidney toxicity, digestive system cancers, reproductive problems, and more)
